Srinagar, Jan 20 (KNO): With Republic Day around the corner, security agencies in Srinagar city have intensified vigilance across the city, conducting searches and a mock drill to ensure seamless and incident-free celebrations.
Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that large-scale searches were carried out in several areas including Takanwari, Karnabal, Shallbug and Bakshipora on the outskirts of Srinagar.
“Teams of Srinagar Police assisted by other security forces conducted thorough searches of residential houses, open fields and suspected areas as part of the heightened security measures ahead of January 26,” an official said.
He added that the operations are part of routine area domination and preventive exercises aimed at maintaining peace and thwarting any potential disruption during the national event.
Meanwhile, a mock drill was also held at Srinagar Railway Station to assess coordination and emergency response readiness among multiple agencies. The exercise witnessed participation from police, railway protection personnel and disaster response teams.
Officials said frisking and checking have been intensified at all major entry and exit points of the city, while additional checkpoints have been set up to monitor vehicular movement and maintain strict surveillance.
Security agencies have appealed to the public to extend cooperation during the checks and promptly report any suspicious movement or unattended objects to the nearest police station—(KNO)
